When getting together with family and friends for the holidays and looking for the perfect gift to give, board games are always a great option. They are relatively inexpensive, give you plenty of room to be creative, and can be easily given to an entire family or multiple people. Not only will games last a life time but they are great to open and use the day of too while everyone is together for the holidays. While you can never go wrong with some of the classic games like Scrabble or Clue, some of the newer more interactive games are sure to get everyone on their feet. Some of my favorites have to be Scategories and Apples to Apples, as both keep everyone involved and will either test your creativity or how well you know each player. Apples to Apples is unlike any other game and will keep you laughing the entire time. And for the most competitive families there is always Trivial Pursuit, which will truly test your knowledge. They are a great way to give one present to everyone and find something that everyone can do together during family gatherings without simply watching television.

No matter what your age you are never too young or old to enjoy games of any type. When shopping for a family in particular, games are the perfect way to include everyone. You can never go wrong with board games especially the classics (and some of my personal favorites) like Clue and Scrabble. Other games such as Taboo and Scattergories are also hands on games that allow you to work in teams. One of my favorite games to play with a large group of people has got to be Apples to Apples. The game never has a dull moment and will always fill your house with laughter. When buying for men in particular a nice poker set is something that could last forever and my guess is, be used often. For the more adventurous families outdoor games such as Bocce or Ladder Golf are sure to be a guaranteed hit. Bocce is great not only to bring with you on vacation to the beach but also to play in your own backyard.

Dan: Many people believe that are video games are detrimental to kids because they display the wrong messages. However, there has been a new wave of games that are more child and family friendly. Some games such as Wii fit promote exercise while the Leapfrog games are all developed for educational purposes.

The most recent game that is of the best quality is Guitar Hero World Tour. This music game is a great gift. The game promotes hand-eye coordination and also is a great tool for timing training. Training that is crucial for playing musical instruments, singing, dancing, sports, etc. It is great to finally see a game that teaches something in a fun way. Music training has also been accredited with other benefits such as better performance in school.

Grace: Another thing that’s great about the Guitar Hero games is that they can also be social games, which I really enjoy. This way, you can enjoy the game yourself or with a bunch of people. And I definitely agree with Dan’s comments about the game promoting hand-eye coordination and timing training. I’ve always had a lot of trouble keeping time when I play music, and maybe I’m delusional, but I like to think that playing the game has helped me keep time a little better.

Dan: Do you like to host parties and get-togethers with friends? I love to invite people over but sometimes there aren’t enough activities to do before everyone starts getting bored. A great gift idea that will keep the party alive is a game called Scene It. The game allows people to play in group competitions circulating around pop culture and movies. An example of one competition in the game is as follows: the game will display a famous quote on the screen and the first group to come up with the name of the movie or character wins those points.

If you are looking for a game, this is the one. Board games = bored games and do not offer the type of excitement and constant suspense that Scene It does. If you know someone who loves to throw parties and have people come over, then I highly recommend this game as an entertaining gift that will keep on entertaining.

Grace: Dan, I completely agree with you on this gift! I love hanging out with my friends and playing silly games, like Scene It. Board games are great to play with your family, but they’re difficult to play at parties and with people you’ve never met before. I would highly recommend buying someone an exciting game as a gift!
